Paulo Coelho: A Techie

Tuesday, December 09, 2008

I ran across an article about Paulo Coelho in TechCrunch.  Paulo Coelho is the bestselling author of The Alchemist and is a proud MySpace (which he says he loves like a wife) and Facebook (which he loves like his mistress) user.  He has his own personal website: http://www.paulocoelho.com that can be viewed in several languages complete with a photo gallery and videos.   He has a web museum, which is a collection of all he's ever posted in a timeline, and his very own online store to sell his books in powered by Amazon.  He has a calendar of events a.k.a. his Agenda.  And last but not least, he blogs!  Wow, our favorite author is a techie - how cool!

Paulo Coelho is launching his first movie project, the Experimental Witch, with MySpace as a partner.  It is based on his book The Witch of Portobello.  It invited MySpace users to contribute original video and music - out of 6,000 entries 15 winners were chosen for the film.

I love the way the internet is transcending into other media like Robin Cook's webisodes that was a prequel to his book.  TV shows hosting their full episodes online, creating social networks around viewing parties and letting their viewers interact with them online.  Now we have an author actually getting material for the film-version of his book in a social network.  Wow!  How far the world wide web has gone and how creatively we have found uses for it...  Great job!
